“SKATE PRODUCER AWARDS IS LIKE THE GRAMMYS FOR SKATE PRODUCERS!”

- DJ Selectah SLAM

When Keezo Kane released the first JB Skate Track, "The Get Down", in 2001, he started a movement and paved the way for Skate Producers. Since then, Skate Producers have shaped the culture of local skate sessions/National Skate events and have been releasing tracks to adapt with the flow of the ever-changing Skate World. The Skate Producer Awards (SPAs) was created to give producers the long overdue recognition that they deserve.

While the SPAs promotes camaraderie amongst the Skate Producers, it also encourages them to release their best music in hopes of beating other producers and earning the title as Skate Producer of the Year. The competition favors producers who have what it takes to make music for multiple skate styles/genres as they can win trophies spanning across 10 different categories.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

After a full calendar year of releasing music, Skate Producers will have the opportunity to submit their tracks for nomination for select categories. The tracks will be reviewed for qualification and scored by "The Committee", a panel of anonymous judges comprised of people  from the Skate World including Skate Producers, DJs, Skate Coordinators, and Skaters.

The judges will score each track on a scale of 1-10 in each of the following criteria:

(1) Creativity / Originality (Sample selection, sample use and instrumentation)

(2) Skate-ability (Tempo, groove, and energy)

(3) Technical Quality (Track arrangement, mixing, and mastering)

After each track has been scored by all judges, the scores will be calculated. The tracks with the highest score in each respective category will earn nomination status. The track with the highest score will be the winner.
